Can you extend a probation period?

ANSWER: An employee can extend an employee's probation period if both parties agree or if the employment agreement allows it. Probation is a performance tool separate from the minimum employment period under the Fair Work Act 2009. When extending probation consider the employment relationship, role, duties, and performance along with the size of the employer. Ensure transparent communication and regular check-ins to avoid anxiety or unsafe practices.
