What NOT to ask in an interview

When you're interviewing candidates, the goal is simple:
Understand whether they can do the job and add value to your team! Hiring starts with the right questions and what you ask matters more than you think.
The golden rule of interviewing:
Ask only what relates directly to:
The Role
The candidates ability to do the job
Anything else = risky territory

Why is this important?
Poorly chosen questions can be:
Discriminatory
Irrelevant
Unlawful
...And they can damage your employer brand
Focus your questions on:
Skills and experience
How those skills apply to the role
Past performance and outcomes
Ability to meet inherent job requirements (hours, travel, physical tasks)
Work style, problem solving and team contribution
Interviewing with clarity:
Protects your business
Supports legal compliance
Creates a positive candidate experience
EVERYONE WINS!
Avoid questions about:
Age or date of birth
Marital status or family plans
Sexual orientation or gender identity
Ethnicity, religion or politcal views
Disabilities, health conditions or pregnancy status
These topics are not relevant to most roles and can attract discrimination complaints
